Don't Croak! Recharge & Adapt

Recharge & Adapt (R&A) is a project that was focused on creating a system of products for adults with autism. The goal of these products is to help a person with autism work through a meltdown
To help us get a better understanding of our target audience, the R & A team met with a Recreational Therapist from Rochester NY. The Rec. Therapist (Caralie Fennessey) has a lot of experience working with people who have Autism and explained to us the wide spectrum of autism. Something that really stuck with us was that she explained how autism looks different for each person that has it. Something that works for one person, might not work for another.
R&A Product Line
The system of products include the Ribbit, a compression sleeve, a docking station, and the R&A app
R&A App: helps the user track their tasks throughout the day as well as record any meltdowns they may have.
Docking Station:  shows statistics on meltdown from the previous day to help pin point any consistent problem areas.
Ribbit & Compression Sleeve: utilizes a variety of therapeutic methods to help work through a melt down
The Ribbit was designed to help guide a user with autism to a calm state of mind after a meltdown has occurred. A Bioimpendance Sensor collects data on the user's respiratory rate to help detect when the user is calming down from the meltdown. After a meltdown is detected the Ribbit begins the process of Tapping Therapy
Tapping Therapy is a method used to help reduce stress, anxiety, and feel less overwhelmed. The Ribbit begins to vibrate in set intervals of 5 minutes. These vibrations help center the user as it distracts there attention to something other than the meltdown that occurred.
The Ribbit also functions as a fidget toy as pressing the screen will make the device vibrate for how ever long the screen is being pressed. The vibration intensity also changes depending on how fast you drag your finger around the screen
